Policy

  • UCLA graduate student, staff, postdoc, and faculty researchers from any department are welcome
  • Undergraduate researchers who wish to consult with us must be working on a research project that will be published and then must have the faculty PI request our services at oarcstat@ucla.edu.
  • Remote consulting is designed to empower UCLA researchers to conduct statistical analysis independently, rather than having the consultants perform the analysis directly.
  • Two visits per week.
  • Data security: Please follow UCLA OHRPP and/or IRB rules regarding personal or sensitive data. We cannot assist researchers whose data contain personal or sensitive information. Please see HIPAA Research Guidelines and Information at UCLA and UCLA Policy 991 for further information.  (See below for guidance).

Process

  • Bring your data and any relevant code, and be prepared to share screens and provide a detailed summary of your project and research questions during the consultation.
  • You will enter a waiting room and may have to wait to brought into the main room while we are triage clients
  • One or more consultants, if available, will then assist you with your problem
  • Among other problems, we can assist with:
    • Research design questions
    • Power analysis
    • Data management
    • Statistical analysis
    • Data visualization
    • Interpretation and reporting of analyses

Email consulting

UCLA researchers can also email us at oarcstat@ucla.edu to discuss problems that would not require extensive discussion. We can consult on the same issues as in our remote consulting services (see above).

In your email please include your data (if possible) and any relevant code along with your questions. Any data sent to us must not contain personal identifying or sensitive information. (See below for guidance).
