Sometimes, you might need to run HLM in batch model. In order to run HLM in batch mode from any directory of your choosing, you need add HLM to the PATH variable. And here is how to add HLM to the path variable.
First off, you need to find where HLM is located on your computer. You can do this by clicking on your Start menu, then locate the HLM icon which you would use to start HLM. Instead of left clicking on the icon to start HLM, right click on the HLM icon and select Properties. This will show a window similar to the one below.
The Target field shows the folder where HLM is stored. In this example, the folder is "C:Program FilesHLM6".
Now that we know the folder where HLM is stored, we can modify the Windows path variable. We show this below for Windows 7 and XP.
Windows 7 and XP
On Windows 7 or Windows XP, choose System icon from the Control Panel. Choose Advanced system settings from the left panel. You will see a window like the one below.
Click on the Environment Variables button and a window like the one below will pop up.
Highlight the PATH variable in the top section of User Variables and then click the Edit button to add HLM to the PATH variable, separated by a semicolon from the existing one, shown below. Click OK to finish. That is all to it.
Now after the path to HLM is added, you might want to test it out. In Windows 7, type in cmd in the "Search programs and files" box and press Enter.
A Command line Window will pop up. You can then type in "hlm2". If the path variable is successfully added, you will see a response from HLM as shown below. Otherwise, it will say something like "hlm2 not found".
In Windows XP, the process is very similar, except that one starts a command line window by Start -> Run and then enter "cmd".
