This example is taken from Lehtonen and Pahkinen’s Practical Methods for Design and Analysis of Complex Surveys.
pages 102 and 107, Table 3.14 Model-assisted estimation results for the population total of UE91 from an SRS sample of eight elements drawn from the Province’91 population.
The SAS data file for this example can be downloaded by clicking here. Note that a modification was made to this data set: a variable called cons was added to the data set. The variable cons is equal to one for all cases. A text file containing the strata and poststratification totals can be downloaded by clicking here.
In this example, the variable wt is used as the weight variable, the variable clu is used as the VarUnit and the variables ue91 and hou85 are used as the analysis variables. The jackknife-1 (jk1) method of creating the replicate weights is used because we do not have stratification in this sample. Also, we will need to use an FPC of .75 (1 – (8/32) = .75).
The output is given below.
The marginal ue91 value of 6610 is the estimated total of the variable ue91, and its standard error is 3320.5647. The marginal hou85 value of 41238 is the estimated total of the variable hou85, and its standard error is 21824.6433. The marginal ratio value of 0.1603 is the estimated ratio of ue91/hou85, and its standard error is 0.0110.
