This example is taken from Lehtonen and Pahkinen’s Practical Methods for Design and Analysis of Complex Surveys.
pages 106 and 107, Table 3.14 Model-assisted estimation results for the population total of UE91 from an SRS sample of eight elements drawn from the Province’91 population.
The SAS data file for this example can be downloaded by clicking here. Note that a modification was made to this data set: a variable called cons was added to the data set. The variable cons is equal to one for all cases.
In this example, the variable wt is used as the weight variable, the variable clu is used as the VarUnit and the variable ue91 is used as the analysis variable. The jackknife-1 (jk1) method of creating the replicate weights is used because we do not have stratification in this sample. Also, we will need to use an FPC of .75. The value of .75 is obtained by using the formula 1 – (n/N) = 1 – (8/32) = .75.
The output is given below.
In the first output shown above, the marginal hou85 value of 164952 is the estimated total of the variable hou85. In the second output shown above, we see that the parameter estimate for hou85 is 0.1520. These two values, in addition to the estimated total of ue91 under simple random sampling and the known population total of hou85, are needed to calculate the regression estimator shown in the last row of Table 3.14.
