Step 1: Close applications
Close ALL applications including any virus scan program and/or email program. Start with Setup CD.
Step 2: Very System Requirements
After choosing your language preference, you will see the window below. Choose "Verify System Requirements".
SAS may ask you to enter your password for automatic login during the installation process. You may enter your password to speed up the process or ignore it and enter your password manually after the computer is restarted.
Step 3: Pre-processing before installing SAS Software
Choose Install SAS Software. You also should have the sid.txt file ready for installation data at this time.
We choose a different location for temporary data files.
Next step needs some care. You may just want to take the default. That means you’ll have all the licensed components. (If this is all you want, you can skip to next step. Otherwise, read along.)
But this does not mean you will have all the example data sets from each module. If you also want to install these example data sets, you will have to manually go through the selection menu and check on the items. For example, in our case, we want to install all of the gismaps that SAS offers. We first click on the plus sign for SAS 9.1. This will expand the menu as shown below.
Now check the items that you want to install.
Now we are ready to proceed to next step. Click Next.
Step 4. Installing SAS Software
Now we are ready to install all the components we have chosen in previous step. From now on, just simply follow the instructions, basically changing CDs accordingly. Again, if you have not close all the applications, this is your last time to do so. Things should go as expected. It will take a while though, since SAS is HUGE.
The order of CDs that will be asked is as follows.
- Software Disk 1
- Software Disk 2
- Software Disk 3 (only if you have selected to install gismaps)
- Software Disk 4
- SAS/Secure
- SAS National Language Support
- Service Pack 2 for SAS Foundation
- AS/Shared Components
About file associations, choosing "No" and applying the answer to all the questions will speed up the installation process since SAS will not try too associate each itself with different formats of files. But this may prevent SAS launch itself automatically when you click on a SAS data set or a SAS program.
You will use the SAS Setup Disk to finish the installation.
We strongly recommend reboot your computer after the installation.
